1. The man in the photo was pushed into the track trying to stop a fight. A train was on its way and eventually killed him. A photographer was near by and tried to use his flash from his camera to stop the train. 
2. He took the photo to try to warn the train conductor to stop the train with his flash.
3. No. The photographer should have rushed to try to help the man up from the tracks. 
4. No. The best thing he could have done was ave the man's life. To me a person's life is more important than having a good picture.
5. I once again disagree because it is like making a movie about someone dying and you can watch every second of their death. It is kind of disgusting that they put the death of a man on the cover for millions to see.
6. To a photojournalist-Taking and documenting the picture and what happened is probably ,ore important. To me-Stoping the bad things from happening would be more important because i would rather save a life than make money from someones death that I could have prevented. 
7. Yes it is completely ethical. To me it would be unethical to not involve yourself in a bad situation when you could help someone. Photojournalists should just be documenters, they should be doers as well in that they save and help not just take a picture and share. 
8. They should never avoid influencing bad things from  happening. They should always try their best to help those people and take a picture of them when they are done being helped. 
9. He should not have taken the picture of he had enough time to save the man. You can't document a death without trying to stop it first.

1. This Picture Caught my eye because i've always wanted to go to Yosemite and i immedietly recognized it as Cathedral Rock.
2. Before Ansel Adams took pictures of Yosemite Carelton Watkins did. He packed all his equipment on mules and headed into the valley. 
3. He Came back with 130 pictures and this made Congress want to protect this land setting up the National Parks system.

1.  This picture caught my eye because Abe Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents and historical figures. 
2. This picture was taken by Mathew Brady, a Broadway photographer. This was taken before he ran for president. 
3. He was on his way to give a speech that had to be perfect and he needed a portrait of himself. Brady would go on to document a lot of the Civil war.

On this website i leaned some basic things that i can do on a camera, along with some more advanced things as well. It told some simple photography tricks that can make a cool photo like how to make forced perspective photos. It also gave tips and tricks like how to make a 360 degree panorama and digital infrared pictures.  I picked this photo because i like optical illusions and this is kind of like that.

This photo is honestly kind of confusing to me. I keep thinking that the railings are hanging from the ceiling and that there is something  wrong with the orientation of this picture. I chose this picture because it confused me and i thought it was a very interesting photo. I liked how it was confusing and it shows the rule of balance and repetition because its the same thing all the way down.

I didn't really like the blog post itself on this website because they didn't really seem like photography goals. They seemed more like self goals. I would have liked it better if the goals were more like "get a good artsy shot, follow the rules of photography better" or stuff like that so i could better relate to them. I liked this picture because the guy still looks super happy even though it looks like he is drenched and is still singing and having fun.

This website is the one with the time lapse video, so i don't have a favorite picture i can show. I did like seeing the time lapse video. It showed lots of different angles of Rio and some really neat shots from in the ocean looking back into the city and the bay. My favorite clip was the shot from in the trams that go up the mountain and you saw some coming at you and going away.

This website was pretty cool. I liked seeing how old some of those thing were and i was happy to see that i had seen a lot of things like them. These aspen trees reminded me of this past summer when i was hiking in northern New Mexico and Colorado. It kind of bought me back there and i really liked that feeling. Thats why i chose this photo from the website.

Local Photographer

Jay Janner

He is photographer at the Austin American Statesman. He shoots all sorts of things, but mainly sports. I like him because he takes a lot of cool pictures of Texas and their sports. 

 I like this picture because i saw this happen in person. Also because i think its cool how he gets such good quality pictures when his subjects are moving so fast. This shows the rule of thirds.

 This picture shows repetition because they are all wearing the same uniform and they all look kind of similar in this picture.

 This shows depth and framing because the other players create a frame around Shane. It shows depth because the defenders are closer to the camera than Shane.

 This shows rule of thirds and simplicity. There isnt much of a background except a bunch of black sky creating a simple picture.

This picture shows balance because Tyrone and the Baylor defender are on opposite sides of the picture, thus balancing it.

Our groups theme was color. We all had two different colors to shoot. I picked blue and orange because they are nice contrasts and look good together. 

Magazine Covers ll

Image Based
They consist of an image with usually 1 or 2 people in a portrait shot. They can be smiling or not depending on the mood of the magazine.



Illustration Based
They used to be used in olde magazines because hand drawing was the only way to have an image on the cover. Now they are mainly computer generated images that display sometimes funny things or animations.


Type Based
They consist of mainly words with 1 or 2 smaller pictures. They fonts are usually very large and creative with different fonts used on the cover. Not very popular.


Concept Based
 A mix of the other three. They are used to present very shocking or very funny/happy things. Tend to share a strong message. They have to be easily understandable.


The relationship between words and pictures is very important. The words usually tell more about the picture or what will be in the magazine. Other things that are done is that the words are somehow incorporated into the picture.

Favorite Cover

W, December/January, The Art Issue

I like this cover because of the cool designs on his suit and in the font of the words too. The font is pretty cool because it is a pink/red color, but when it goes over the whit polka dots it makes an orange outline of the dot on the text. It is also pretty bright with a high exposure which helps contribute to the light mood of the picture. The picture fits the title pretty well too. It is called "The Artist Issue" and the suit was painted/designed by an artist and George Clooney, the subject is also and artist so it all fits in the theme of artist.

American soldier

A I think the most powerful photo is the one where he is praying that his back rashes go away. This picture can b perceived in many ways and i see it as he id dealing with his new struggles of being in the army and can barely make it through the strenuous training.
B They images show key moments in his journey so the viewer can get the whole story of his struggles and successes. They are arranged in chronological order which also provide a story feeling for viewers.
C The captions enhance the pictures by fillings in the blanks of things that we don't know just from the picture. They are also filled with adjectives that make the picture more detailed and in depth.
D Fisher graduated from high school knowing he was going to enlist in the army. He began his training days later not knowing how difficult it would be. He made friends and suffered many defeats and successes in training. After training he was ready to be deployed. He was deployed and stationed at the best base in the are, where he was able to cal home a lot.  He returned home fro his mid tour break and was married to his girlfriend.
E When Fisher is the subject, the verbs in the captions are usually in present tense.

F 1.   There are about 3-4 sentences.
2.  The first sentence gives the who, what, when , where
3.  The second sentence gives information that you don't know from the picture
4.  The third sentence adds more information and sometimes a quote

G People can tell what is happening by the order of the photos and people infer what is and has happening.

H Because you don't learn everything just from the pictures and caption. You need more information to complete the whole story.

I like this picture because 1, it is basketball and i like basketball, and 2, because the framing of the hoop makes the picture look cool.

I like this picture because the baby is cute and it is very colorful. 

I like this picture because the man is looking off camera and it let the viewer imagine what he is looking at.  And it uses rule of thirds to create an open frame.

I would want to shoot my portrait on a soccer field. I would want the picture to be taken from ground level so that they could see m cleats and the ball and such. I would want this because i am a soccer player and it characterizes who i am as a person.
